Baby Sleep Answers

Hi, Thank you so much for replying.

Things have got a lot better. We ditched the dummy and although started using the PUPD method, we swapped to the controlled crying method and he is now getting off to sleep within 10 minutes (with a lot of crying), I do find the crying difficult to deal with, but it does seem to help him get off to sleep and stay asleep. Before we used the bouncer to help him off to sleep but he would wake a lot.
He is now sleeping through until about 3am when he stirs about every hour until 5 -6am when he properly wakes. I have tried feeding him at 3am and he will take some, but doesn’t seem that bothered.

He doesn’t have a very strict routine. He feeds 4 hourly during the day and has a dream feed at about 11pm. Unfortunately he doesn’t have consistent nap times as it will depend on what time he had his first bottle in the morning. – which then affects what time he goes to bed.

In the morning he will nap for about an hour between 8-9 ish, then another at 11-12 for up to 2 hours. Then then needs another in the afternoon about 4pm. We try to get him to go to bed by 7.30.
I often find that he gets sleepy about an hour before a feed so he doesn’t get to sleep long.
When he cries in his sleep I stroke his head and put my hand on his chest, but it doesn’t seem to help. I am now trying to give him a few minutes to see if he settles, which he often does.
Will the controlled crying get any easier? I feel awful letting him cry,but it does work and now that he is sleeping better I feel a lot less stressed.
