: Relax into Restful Sleep: Carolyn McManus: Music

I am a meditation teacher and work one-on-one with clients in the capacity of a personal growth coach. I have taught physiology at the graduate level and in addition have a graduate education in psychology. As part of my background, I work regularly with biofeedback for relaxation and I have had sleep related disorders myself. I think these things make me an ideal candidate to fairly evaluate this product.

When I received this CD, I wasn’t expecting much. I own many similar CDs and while they are helpful, many of them are disappointingly similar and often ineffective. This is CD is different. It is well thought out, organized in such a way to produce a maximal effect and uses techniques that are effective and not just superficially presented.

Specifically, this CD uses a combination of gentle harp music along with two specific techniques, progressive relaxation and a relaxation body scan. Each of these is thoroughly presented in two back-to-back 30 minutes segements. Also, there is a lot of psychological suggestions to set the appropriate atmosphere mentally and the instructions are very detailed.

The author has a soothing voice, presents the material at just the right pace and gradually helps you to slow down so that your bodies natural ability to fall asleep kicks in. While these tapes might not help everybody, they will certainly help many people to fall asleep, stay asleep or deeply relax.

This CD represents one of the finest products in this genre that I know of. While it is not a panacea for sleep problems which sometimes have an organic cause, it is certainly a very useful tool at an attractive price point. While a 5 is the highest rating I can give, I want to convey that it has enough merit to warrant a long review and my strong endorsement. It is actually difficult for me to listen to it without falling asleep even when I want to for review purposes!
