Unless External Monitor Used
Hi All,
Got a white 13 inch Macbook 2.0 Ghz mid 2007. Actually replaced a bunch of stuff on it a couple months back including the screen and kb – recently there was a spill of some kind of liquid on the kb.
When you power on the computer, the back light would engage for a second and then get dim. If you put a flashlight to the screen, you can still see the apple logo but that too disappeared shortly and the computer would go to sleep.
I opened her up and there was about a 2 square inch area that was affected towards the left middle by the airport card but didn’t look horrible. I cleaned it up as best I could and started diagnosing.
-reset pram
-tried another keyboard, same issue
-disconnected sleep sensor, same issue
-disconnected backlight inverter cable off the logic board, same issue
-disconnected lcd cable, don’t remember what happened but I think it would not post
-disconnected cd drive, same issue
So that was yesterday, since then the computer is back together. Today I connected her to a monitor and it works (only on the monitor). When connected, the system boots up and stays on. There is no display what so ever on the macbook – only the external.
Now, when I unplug the external, the backlight flashes on the macbook and then goes to sleep.
Wake it up, the screen goes on for 2 seconds (backlight and lcd display) and then goes to sleep.
Plug the external back in, wake up and the computer stays on (only displaying on the external)
I did not try a different inverter or lcd, I guess it’s possible that they are the cause but from my diagnosis, doubt it. Anyone come across anything like this before?
